National Signing Day in review

The Early Signing Period will go all the way until Friday evening, but the class of 2019 took it’s shape yesterday as many of the best athletes in the country signed with the school of their choice and some even made their announcements.  The normal suspects are at the top with maybe a few surprises.

Something that shouldn’t shock anyone is that Alabama is at the top again after Georgia took the spot a year ago and the Crimson Tide dropped all the way to fifth.  Nick Saban brought in a total of 26 commitments, 20 being in the ESPN 300, with 3 5-stars, 22 4-stars, and 1 3-star.

One of the bigger stories of the day, involving the Crimson Tide, was that they grabbed 5-star RB, Trey Sanders.  The Tide got him over Georgia, Florida, Florida State, and Texas, but it was really only down to Georgia and Alabama.  Sanders committed to Alabama very early but ended up de-committing in January.  Georgia came in and even got Sanders on an official visit in December, but the Tide got him to re-commit in the end.

Another surprise is that Texas A&M has the No. 3 ranked class.  The Aggies have 25 commitments, with 2 5-stars, 12 4-stars, and 11 3-stars.  The Aggies haven’t been in the top 5 since 2014, so what we’ve learned from this is that Jimbo Fisher can recruit and get his share of guys.  The SEC will be loaded again this year.

The SEC is well represented, having 4 of the top 5 recruiting classes (Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, and LSU) which is no surprise.  So any SEC haters out there, guess you’re going to have to take a spot in the trunk this year.

Here’s a list of the top 10 schools:
