I am going to go ahead and say it, I am not that big of a fan of LeBron James. He’s a great basketball player and perhaps one of the best we’ve ever seen, but sometimes he makes himself look like an idiot.
This past weekend, James posted a picture on his Instagram story with lyrics from 21 Savage’s new song “ASMR.” The lyrics were “We been getting that Jewish money, Everything is Kosher.”
I saw this and took no offense to it, because I am not Jewish, but I can definitely see why some people would’ve and did.
LeBron then got a brain and deleted the post and apologized to those he offended:
“Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone. That’s not why I chose to share that lyric. I always post lyrics. That’s what I do. I ride in my car, I listen to great music, and that was the byproduct of it. So, I actually thought it was a compliment, and obviously it wasn’t through the lens of a lot of people. My apologies. It definitely was not the intent, obviously, to hurt anyone.”
The NBA has decided to take no action on this, and I don’t think they should. LeBron will go back to being a major icon, not only in the world of sports but in the public eye as a whole.
James has taken many political stances, stood against Donald Trumps “racism”, and is known as being a wonderful and caring father to his kids.
But, if you’re James, don’t you have to be smarter? I feel like if you look at those lyrics and are looking for a line to put on a social media post, “We been getting that Jewish Money, Everything is Kosher” should be the LAST thing you use.
He didn’t go to college, so maybe not.
Like I said, it didn’t offend me, but it obviously offended some people, who some I am sure are of the Jewish religion, and that is definitely why James took the post down.
In today’s world, anything you say can be tinkered, taken the wrong way, and can offend anyone. Everyone makes mistakes, but I don’t see how this got past him. It’s kind of like his comment the other day about white NFL owners having “that slave mentality.” You cannot say this stuff.
LeBron, be smarter. Please and thank you.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!
