Duke loses in OT; Michigan #1?

Just as I was ready to say Duke was the best team in college basketball this year, they go throw-up on themselves and lose to unranked Syracuse in OT at home.

Duke was without two starters.  Cam Reddish was out with a sickness, then Tre Jones was injured in the first half.  Coach K confirmed after the game that Jones has a sprained shoulder and could be “out for awhile.”

Now I see a lot of people using this as an excuse, but the Blue Devils still had Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett, who both played great.  But here’s where the Blue Devils lost the game…. they went 9-43 (!!!!!) from behind-the-arc.  So, for the people saying they lost because they were without Jones and Reddish, no, they lost because they built 65 brick houses.

Before we move on from this game, we have to acknowledge this shot:

So, now that Duke has lost, they have to drop at least one spot, right? I would think so.  When the Blue Devils fall from the top spot, the Michigan Wolverines will takeover.  Now, since the next set of rankings don’t come out for another week, Michigan will most likely lose, because I’m a jinx, and give the committee a reason to leave Duke at #1.  Sorry Wolverine fans.

Michigan has a perfect record of 17-0, for the first time in school history, and is one of two schools remaining that are undefeated, with the other one being Virginia.

The only other team I could see moving up to #1 would be Virginia, who is atop the rankings in the Coaches Poll.

Give the top spot to an undefeated team and wait for them to lose.  This season is going to be a lot of fun.
