Greg Schiano returns to the NFL as new Patriots defensive coordinator

Shortly after New England’s linebacker coach Mike Flores got hired as the Dolphins new head coach, the Pats quickly found their new defensive coordinator.

Enter in Greg Schiano, as he was announced New England’s new DC. Schiano returns to coaching in the NFL after five years away from the league.

Most recently Schiano has been the DC for the Ohio State Buckeyes under Urban Meyer. Schiano was named head coach for Tennessee in 2017, but the deal broke off after controversy with his past history of allegedly knowing about Jerry Sandusky’s abuse at Penn State.

Schiano was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2012-2013. He went a combined 11-21 in two seasons before being fired.

The 52-year-old was more notably the head coach of Rutgers from 2001-2011. During that span, he coached current Pats DB’s Devin and Jason McCourty, as well as Duron Harmon.
