The final week of the 2018-19 college basketball season is here and it’s kind of hard for me to believe. Feels like yesterday Duke smacked Kentucky. Oh well.
Let’s look back at the week/weekend in college basketball and look at the latest AP Top 25 poll.
Tennessee blew out Kentucky in Knoxville in a very ugly game. Tennessee was #1, went to Rupp Arena, and got smacked. On Saturday, Kentucky traveled to Knoxville looking to solidify a #1 seed, and the Vols had other plans…absolutely destroying Kentucky. After this, Tennessee jumped Kentucky while the Cats fell to #6 and rightly so.
Both teams are very good, and I think most level-headed people thought UK and UT would split the series. Looks like now we will get part 3 in Nashville.
I can’t wait!
Houston’s winning streak comes to an end. After climbing all the way to #8 in the polls, suffering their first loss since the beginning of January. They drop 4 spots to #12.
The team that took down the Courgars, the UCF Knights, climbed into the top 25 and sit right at #25.
Is Gonzaga really that good? For the second straight week, the Zags are #1 in the polls. They’re one of the few teams to take down a healthy Duke team, but they haven’t played a ranked team since the middle of December, which was a loss to North Carolina.
They might make the Final Four, but they’re extremely lucky. Getting to sit on the west coast and murder all of the local high school teams while being ranked in the top 5 must be a lot of fun.
Is North Carolina the hottest team in the country? After struggling at the beginning of the season, the Tar Heels have flipped the switch late in the season. After losing to Virginia, the Heels have won five straight, including Duke, Syracuse, and Florida State.
They’re a definite Final Four contender and it wouldn’t surprise me if they cut down the nets in Minneapolis.
A Zion-less Duke team continues to struggle. We all knew the Blue Devils would struggle without Zion and they have. They’ve lost to UNC and Virginia Tech.
The rematch between the Devils and the Heels in Chapel Hill to end the season is going to be a fun one.
