The Nightmare Draft Scenario for the New York Giants that is probably going to happen

Folks, the NFL Draft begins on this coming Thursday which is always exciting as it gives teams a split second of hope that the player they took will help take their franchise to the next level.

Unless you’re a Giants fan and your team always colossally messes up the draft. Now before I dive into how the Giants always mess up the draft, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that some of the picks that I’m going to be mentioning here were not picked by the current front office.

However, the Giants fired Jerry Reese, a man who spent top ten picks on Ereck Flowers and Eli Apple, and hired a guy in Dave Gettleman who traded Odell Beckham for a bag of rocks and thinks that Eli Manning has “plenty left.”

So as you can see it’s tough being a Giants fan and it’s only going to get tougher because Daniel Jones is likely the number one quarterback on our draft board.

Not Kyler Murray. Not Dwayne Haskins. Daniel Jones. My thought process is that because the ownership group led by absolute dunce John Mara wants Eli Manning to play for another 15 years, they’d rather take a QB who’s a project than take someone who’s probably already better than Eli Manning.

The other thing about Jones is that since we’re one of the only teams stupid enough to use a first round pick on him is that he will be available at number seventeen, which is our second 1st round pick. This will allow the Giants to potentially draft one of the elite defenders at number six.

However, they’ll mess that up too. I can totally see the Giants taking Michigan DE Rashan Gary at six over someone like Dwayne Haskins, Ed Oliver, or Devin White because that’s just what the Giants do. Gary didn’t produce well in college and for being such a highly touted recruit he definitely underperformed.

That being said, a lot of folks in the draft circle see a lot of potential in Rashan Gary. I’m not sitting here pretending to be an expert scout but I’ve also watched enough football in my life to know when a prospect has red flags like this it doesn’t work out often.

I also know that Dave Gettleman can’t be trusted. In the span of 15 months he has traded Odell Beckham Jr for what could end up essentially being Daniel Jones and Jabrill Peppers, traded Damon Harrison for a 5th round pick, and let Landon Collins walk instead of franchise tagging him.

You can also make the argument that taking Saquon Barkley over Sam Darnold last year was a huge mistake. Darnold had the highest QBR during the month of December last year and he really seemed to have found his game.

I love Saquon Barkley as much as the next person does but if Darnold ends up being a franchise pillar for fifteen years while Barkley’s career will definitely be shorter simply because of the position he plays then it could go down as one of the biggest missed opportunities of all time.

So when it’s all said and done, the nightmare scenario of taking Gary at six and Jones at seventeen is on the table for the Giants. I wouldn’t put it past Dave Gettleman to do this to our fanbase and our team.

As a Giants fan, it’s important to get mentally prepared that we’re going to mess the draft up so that when we do it doesn’t hurt as badly.
