The New York Giants had the worst first round in NFL history last night

Folks, Dave Gettleman has completely destroyed the New York Giants franchise in the span of 16 months since being hired on and tonight was the nail in the coffin.

With Edge Rusher Josh Allen still on the board, Dave Gettleman made what will almost certainly go down as one of the worst draft picks of all time in taking Duke quarterback Daniel Jones.

No, that wasn’t a typo. The Giants took Daniel Jones sixth overall passing on Dwayne Haskins, Josh Allen, and Ed Oliver.

Daniel Jones at best will be Alex Smith. More than likely he will compare out to a Teddy Bridgewater or Ryan Tannehill type of quarterback and the Giants took him sixth overall. It’s a complete embarrassment and it will set our franchise back for the next five years if/when he doesn’t pan out.

Shockingly, Mike Francesa actually put it best.

The Giants aren’t going to be a good team next year. Dave Gettleman is completely delusional if he thinks that this team is going to be decent next year.

He’s made comments that they want to win while rebuilding but guess what, you can’t win games when you can’t get to the quarterback. The Giants have no pass rush and they left a potential generational pass rusher on the board for Daniel Jones.

The night would only get worse though. With the 17th pick the Giants took Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. While I like the player, the pick was a reach. Despite what Gettleman may say, Lawrence is a two-down player.

A comparison for Lawrence would actually be former Giant Damon Harrison in many ways. The Giants traded Harrison for a 5th round pick at the trade deadline and drafted his replacement with a first round pick. It makes zero sense.

What makes matters worse is that the Giants traded Odell Beckham Jr. and received the 17th pick as part of the package. They essentially traded Odell Beckham Jr. for Jabrill Peppers, Dexter Lawrence, and whoever the hell they end up taking at 95.

Unbelievable.

Lastly, the Giants picked DeAndre Baker after trading back into the first round and I actually like him. He was arguably the best cornerback in the draft. He only allowed one touchdown in his entire collegiate career.

So what does this mean for the team going forward? Well it seems as if they have absolutely no plan.

Gettleman says that you always want to take the best player available but he passed up on the best player available in Josh Allen for Daniel Jones and then he took who he thought was the best player available in Dexter Lawrence when there’s already two other studs at defensive tackle on the team.

The team’s pass rushers are Kareem Martin, Markus Golden, and Lorenzo Carter.  I’m certain that Montez Sweat would have really helped this team when it comes to rushing the passer this year.

And for what it’s worth, the Giants can say all they want that it’s not Eli Manning’s last year with the team but it 100% is. Gettleman is lying when he says that it may not be. Just like he lied about not trading Odell. Just like he lied about taking the best player available in the draft.

The saddest part about this is how conspicuous Dave Gettleman is about everything. People knew for weeks what Dave Gettleman was going to do in the draft. Dave Gettleman couldn’t create a smoke screen if the entire world was on fire.

When it’s all said and done, I hope I’m wrong about Daniel Jones. I hope to appear on Freezing Cold Takes and eat crow. I don’t think I will be though.

This franchise is in the hands of an egotistical buffoon who doesn’t know how to manage talent. The Giants did this to themselves and they deserve to be the new Cleveland Browns.
