What’s Next for RDA & Kevin Lee?

This Saturday after Rafael Dos Anjos defeated Kevin Lee via 4th round submission there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding what is next for both fighters but first I’ll give my thoughts on the fight.

RDA looked good and not afraid to exchange as usual. Kevin Lee had a ton of energy out of the gate, landing some solid strikes in the exchanges as well as getting a takedown in the 2nd. RDA’s wrestling looked much improved which helped in gassing out Kevin Lee. The 3rd and 4th round Lee really slowed down allowing Dos Anjos to take over the fight. He kept his composure and got Lee to the ground which lead to the submission.

It was great to see Dos Anjos back to winning ways after a two fight skid but as a fan of Kevin Lee it was hard to see him lose another fight he was in control of. It feels like I am watching the same sad movie but still hoping every time it ends happily. Kevin Lee needs a new camp ASAP!

Lee has so much talent but needs more guidance as a fight. We haven’t seen a ton improvement over his last few fights. The talent is there, he just needs to stick to a weight class, find a new camp to help develop his skills to their full potential. It would be nice to see him take some off and really think about his next opponent, if it is at 155 lbs I’d like to see him finally fight Islam Makhachev. If Lee chooses to stay at 170lbs a fight vs Leon Edwards or Vincente Luque.

Rafeal Dos Anjos on the other hand now has to look for another opponent that will help increase his stock with a win. His career at Welterweight has been a roller coaster constantly up and down but hopefully he can get his way back to a title shot.

Fighting the winner of Askren vs Masvidal (preferably Masvidal) would put him in a perfect position to get back in the title talks. If the winner of Askren vs Masvidal gets a title shot then RDA could find himself matched up with Darren Till in a striking war every fan would love to see.

RDA should be wise with his next opponent and not get sucked in by the UFC forcing him to take a fight that is a terrible matchup for him or doesn’t improve his stock much. For example a rematch against Lawler which is a dangerous or a fight against Santiago Ponzinibbio that doesn’t really do anything for RDA in his efforts to earn a title shot.

Though Dos Anjos and Lee are in two completely different spots right now they both need to make smart decisions on what is next for them in the UFC. It would be great for the UFC to have Lee get back in the win column.
