Folks, the MLB season is still quite young and the Yankees are dominating the rivalry between them and the hated Boston Red Sox. In less than 60 games, the Yankees are 9.5 games ahead of the Sox. That’s a beautiful thing.
It goes beyond that, though. The Yankees have won 9 straight series and have done so without the likes of Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge who have played just a combined 23 games this season. Luis Severino hasn’t pitched a single inning and won’t be back until after the All-Star Break. Didi Gregorius has been recovering from Tommy John surgery all year and isn’t expected back until the middle of June.
The point is this: The Yankees are destroying everybody right now and it’s basically their Triple A team. The Red Sox are sitting at .500 when they’ve pretty much had their whole roster in tact. They’re not missing their ace pitcher. They’re not missing their best outfielder.
Some people are saying that the Red Sox should just go ahead and fold their team. They’re saying that if they can’t beat a wounded Yankees team then what’s the point of even playing baseball this season? Others are saying that they’re a complete embarrassment and abomination to the sport of baseball.
As for me, I’ll say that I want the Red Sox to stay in the MLB because it’s more easy wins for the Yankees. It’s easier to play the Red Sox than it is to play the Orioles right now if you’re the Yankees.
I miss the days where the rivalry was at least competitive. I guess the “B” in Boston stands for “Beta.”
