The Chicago Cubs have signed 7 time all star Craig Kimbrel. The hard throwing righty has over 300 career saves with a 1.91 ERA.
The Cubs have had their share of bullpen woes this year. Adding the free agent Kimbrel will give the Cubs more confidence late in games.
With the inconsistency of Pedro Strop and the uncertainty of when Brandow Morrow will return, this move had to be done. The North siders have looked to Steve Cishek a lot, but he serves much better as a long relief/set up man.
No suprise Kimbrel held out this long. Many were skeptical how long he and Dallas Kuechel could hold out to get the money they felt they deserved.
Last season Kimbrel won the world series with the Boston Red Sox. However he got beat up in the postseason and looked like he was worn out. 2018 was probably his worst season as a pro after he posted a 2.74 ERA.
The Huntsville Alabama product is 31 years old and is in his 9th season. Theo Epstein believes he still remains one of the games best closers.
